Apply now to be a Seeing Eye Dogs carer!
Here is an overview of the different ways you can join the Seeing Eye Dogs carer community.
This program is for those who are wanting to raise a puppy from eight weeks of age through to 12-15 months of age. Be there with the pup as they learn all the foundational skills required to be a working Seeing Eye Dog for a client who is blind or has low vision.
This program is taking applications across the majority of local government areas across metropolitan Melbourne, Geelong, Mornington Peninsula, Bendigo and Ballarat regions, as well as selected areas in the Sunshine Coast and northern Brisbane in Queensland.
Our 6 month puppy caring program offers flexibility for those who are unable to commit to 12 months at this point in time – but of course you’re more than welcome to stay on longer if you like!
The short term relief carer program involves shorter term care of puppies at various ages, dogs in training, breeding dogs or graduated dogs. Relief caring can vary in duration from one week to several months, depending on the dog’s needs. This role requires a minimum 12 month commitment.
This program is currently only available in Buderim/Maroochydore and north Brisbane in Queensland.
Breeder caring involves caring for adult dogs who are part of our breeding program. This is a full time role, usually from when the dog is around 12 months of age, until the end of their breeding career. The length of their career can depend on various factors and can be for approximately a number of months up to a number of years.
Our breeder caring program is currently only accepting applications in the following LGA’s: Melbourne, Moreland, Darebin, Moonee Valley, Bendigo, Maribyrnong and Yarra.
When our dogs are in the final stages of their formal training program, they often need time to rest and relax during their downtime. These dogs are adult dogs over 12 months of age who need a home to take it easy overnight during the week and throughout the weekend. As these dogs are in full-time training with our instructors, they have extra guidelines to follow to ensure they don’t interrupt their journey to being matched with a client who is blind or has low vision.
Currently available in Buderim/Maroochydore in Queensland and Kensington, Flemington, North Melbourne, Ascot Vale, West Melbourne areas in Victoria only.
